3. If you were using this article in a written assignment, and you paraphrased its content,
how would you reference the article?
4. How would you reference if you used a direct quote from the article in an assignment?
5. Explain what the content of the article about?
6. Explain if you should undertake further research after reading the article?
7. Why should members of the general public be interested in this article?
It is not appropriate to simply cut and paste from the article when answering any of the question, particularly question five above.
Activity Two: Introductory review of financial report (100 marks)
Required:
1. You are required to find a company annual report for this presentation. You must obtain approval from your lecturer / course coordinator to proceed with your choice.
Although the annual reports can be found from the Australian Stock Exchange or direct from the company’s web site, you may find it more convenient to obtain details from http://www.connect4.com.au/productes/ar/index.html and then select the year 2008 and the company you wish to review.
2. On campus students must make the presentation on the nominated date as set by your local lecturer. Off-campus students should mail the presentation to the Course Coordinator.
3. The presenter must use Power Point slides. Off-campus students must provide wording in the note section of Power Point for each slide in lieu of the oral requirements of this task. In the presentation, as a minimum, the student must address the following, together with any other relevant details.

2. Why you chose this company?
3. Type of industry
4. Size of the company? Small Medium Large
5. Given your choice of size, explain why you have classified the company as this size.
6. What activities are undertaken by the company?
7. Was the terminology used in the annual report covered in your text book? If so, give examples; if not what terminology was used that was not described in the textbook?
8. Explain if the annual report is the only reliable source of information about the company.
Activity Three: In Depth Review of a Financial Report (150 marks)
Required:
All students are required to prepare a report addressing matters raised in the assignment. The lecturer will allocate a company to you to review. You are to address the issues listed below:
1. Name of chosen company:
2. The registered address of the company
3. The industry the company is in
4. Period covered in the annual report
5. Discuss if it is necessary to read the whole of the annual report in order to review the company.
6. Does the annual report serve any other purpose than presenting financial details?
7. List two non-financial pieces of information contained in the financial statements.
8. Determine if your chosen company is profitable.
Provide the following amounts from your financial statements:
1. Total Current Liabilities
2. Total Equity
3. Cash Flows from Financing Activities
4. Revenue earnings per Share
5. The profit / loss of the company (after tax)
6. Any provisions shown for non-current assets in the annual report?
7. Any leased assets shown in the annual report.
Answer the following questions from your financial statements:
1. What financial statements are included in the annual report and what are their purposes?
2. Has there been any change in accounting policy?
3. How are the assets being financed?
4. Explain if you consider the company to be in a healthy financial position.
